Movies of Dartmouth's 1958 "Ivy League Football Champions" in action highlighted the January 21 meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Baltimore at the Blackstone Apartments.
This delightful session was, however, coupled with sadness because of the January 4th death of Howard C. Van Riper '38, our immediate past president. Van came to Baltimore shortly after World War II and was a contributing member to the club in time, energy and personality. His loss comes as quite a shock and to his widow, Ellen, and young daughter we extend deepest sympathies.
Much of the credit for the success of the January 21st meeting must go to Bailey Walten '43 and Bill McCarthy '53 who took over as projectionists for the customary Matt Fenton III '49. Without McCarthy and Walten we would probably have viewed the films by hand.
Another noteworthy chapter on the local agenda was the appearance of Prof. Arthur E. Jensen, Dean of Faculty, who spoke in conjunction with the showing of "The Dartmouth College Case—1958" on Tuesday, February 3 at the Sheraton-Belvedere Hotel. The new color movie depicts highlights in Dartmouth history and the sooth Anniversary Development Program.
It it good to report that both Judd McCarthy '26 and Clark Barrett '38 have successfully recovered from minor surgery and that plans are well under way for a top-notch group of freshmen to enter Hanover from Baltimore next fall in the Class of 1963.
