Freshman baseball coach Eddie Jeremiah came up with one of his strongest teams of recent years as the '61ers chalked up a record of seven wins against no defeats. The Indians defeated Kimball Union Academy, Lyndon Teachers College, New Hampshire, Nichols Junior College, the Harvard freshmen and most recently swept a doubleheader against the University of Vermont. The current lineup has Captain John King, Bob McDonough and Milt Steinhauser in the out-field, with an infield of Skip Bean at third, Dick Marrone at short, Roger McArt at second, Jerry Foote at first, and Henry Gerfen handling the catching duties. Don O'Neil, Skip Johnson and Charlie Donaldson were the mainstays of the mound staff.

Coach Red Hoehn's freshman tennis team was rated a "strong team" this spring, but only managed to defeat Brown, while losing very close matches to Deerfield, M.I.T. and Exeter for a one-three record to date. Ron Pickett is currently playing number one for the team, followed in order by Larry Holden, Denny Engleman, Rick Reed, Ken Kolb, Bob Snyder, Ned Krieger and Ellis Adler.

Coach Karl Michael's freshman lacrosse team also found some rough going as it lost to Exeter, Deerfield and Harvard, while winning over Kimball Union. The starting team had Lou Fauver, Pat Walsh and Doug Freeman on the attack line, Ron Wybranowski, Al Rozycki and Bill Sly at midfield with Hank Laurelli, Bob Gillespie and John Pfeffer on defense. Dave Osterhout has been performing well as goal tender, but a lack of depth hurt the Indians this spring.

Showing surprising strength and depth, the freshman track team under Coach Ellie Noyes won dual meets over Andover, Brown, Boston University and Harvard to stay undefeated. Captain Fred Daley, who broke the freshman 440-yard record in a time of 50:3 against Harvard, heads the team. Bill Zeilman in the dash events, John Ebers in the hurdles, George Ramming in the discus and shotput, Dick Husband in the broad jump, Elliot Weis in the 880-yard run, Norm Page in the high jump and Greg Millett in the pole vault are some of the other outstanding performers.

Also currently undefeated is Coach Tom Keane's freshman golfers who have five straight wins over Andover, Williams, Nichols Junior College and Harvard. Steve Auer is the number one freshman golfer, followed in order by Dave Lasher, Howie Goldberg, Bill Nelson, Bill Atkinson, Doug Zipes and Bill Miller. There is plenty of material here, according to Coach Keane, to help the varsity next spring. The same is true for most of the other freshman teams.
