Top Class Treasurer

Russell J. Rice '15 was honored asDartmouth's Class Treasurer of theYear at the annual dinner of the classofficers in Hanover on May 2. Following is the citation read on that occasion:

It can fairly be said that a class is no stronger than its treasurer, whose responsibility it is to produce the financial fuel for an active and all-inclusive class program. You, Russell J. Rice, in company with the other officers of your class, are a good, solid reason for the strength and excellence of the Class of 1915 in all its operations.

You have served as class treasurer for the past nine years. Since you took over in 1948 we have watched the percentage of dues payers in your class move steadily up, from 55% to 58, to 59, to 60, to 61, to the 63% of this year. This is the sort of performance that would get you admitted to Dartmouth College even today. During the whole nine-year period you have maintained 1915's ALUMNI MAGAZINE circulation at 100% of the class. And in addition, 1915 this year includes 63 widows in its class subscription, for the largest and most successful program of this kind among all the classes. It takes funds to do all this, and you are the fellow who sees that they are available.

Last year you served as President of the Dartmouth Class Treasurers Association, and it was while you were in office that the wheels began to turn on the preparation of a much-needed manual for class treasurers. An engineer by profession, and a community leader on whom they call as planning and building chairman when they need a new church or hospital in Needham, Massachusetts, you have planned and built well also for the Class of 1915 and for Dartmouth College. You richly deserve to be hailed as the Dartmouth Class Treasurer of the Year.
