Wednesday evening, September 9, we are holding our annual Send-Off Dinner for the entering freshmen and their dads. Randall Malin '59, June graduate returning to Tuck School this fall, is our speaker to give the Class of 1963 the "word" on Hanover. There will also be two color films, the new "Skiway Story" and the familiar "Dartmouth Visited."
Saturday afternoon, October 3, we are really throwing a big wing-ding. That's the afternoon that the Indians are scheduled to scalp the Quakers here in Philadelphia. We're planning a big victory cocktail party afterwards right across the street from Franklin Field in the Upper Egyptian Room of the University Museum. Trust we don't leave anybody behind among the mummies. Social Chairman Hi Allman '55 has been hard at work on arrangements.
So much for the future that will be past before you read this. Let's turn to the past to bring you up to date on developments not covered in the June ALUMNI MAGAZINE Philadelphia Notes.
Rev. James F. McEIroy '31 was named to your Club Executive Board to replace member-at-large Stewart H. Steffey '41 whom U.S. Steel kicked upstairs and returned to Pittsburgh. Thanks to similar activity on the part of N. W. Ayer, we have another vacancy on the Board caused by the departure of John C. Heston Jr. '54 for New York.
Our last special last-Monday-of-the-month luncheon before summer featured Albert Berkow, a partner of Newburger & Co., speaking on "The Current Stock Market Outlook" on Monday, May 25.
The weather was ideal for the Club's Annual Picnic at Jim Tindle's '36 Valley Forge Farm on Saturday afternoon, June 27. It was hot, sunny, and that cool pond was really great for swimming, interspersed with trips to the beer keg and hot dog grill. Our best guess is that there were between 175 and 200 alumni, undergraduates, dates, and families on hand — a good turnout.
While we're on the subject, we think it's about time to say thanks before the whole alumni body in print to host Jim Tindle. We know darned well we couldn't find a better setting for our picnic, and it's private, too. And after looking over the roll for the Class of 1963 from the Philadelphia area, it's time to take our hats off again to Jim for his work on bringing some of the very best to Hanover. After the acceptances go out each May, Jim plays host to the acceptees.
One more thing before we close: The Glee Club winds up its i960 Spring Tour with a concert here in Philadelphia on Saturday evening, April 2. We've already got the wheels turning to make it a gala evening. The Glee Club packed them in in Radio City Music Hall this summer for many, many weeks. We're certain that they will pack them in again here in Philadelphia.
