Jim Howe has recovered remarkably well from a coronary attack last summer and says he never felt better in his life than now. He has a nephew in the Class of 1961 so he keeps in touch with Hanover and the college. ... Johnnie Ward, who has sparked the prosperity in Lawrence by leading the "Task Force" in restoring the business climate, believes in keeping active in a big way. So much so that he is not content with merely maintaining his position as president of the Essex Savings Bank. He is chairman of the Chamber of Commerce group that launched a $50,000.00 promotional campaign that has begun to revive the down-town business district of Lawrence. With the cooperation of the city government the down-town shopping area has received a new look. Parking, traffic regulations, better store fronts, and uniform shopping hours are a few of the features of the program. In spite of the so called "serious recession" of last year business increased in Lawrence for the first time in five years. A fine write-up in a Lynn newspaper confirms all of Johnnie's work and suggests that other cities follow such an example. ...
We note in the list of the freshman class at Dartmouth this year, the name Theodore C. Morehouse, III, the son of Ted '24 and grandson of our Ted. How pleased Ted would be to have a grandson in the old college. ... Charlie Chase made the eighty-year old group in September and says he is pleased to enter that famous circle and to associate with such noble men. He and Helen are staying in Albany for the winter. Their address is 358 State Street. ... Harry Clark writes he practices a part time schedule but his intestinal fortitude slips gears too much for more than a selective program. But he does feel it is good medicine to keep busy.
