At the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston, on January 21, three special guests were the Misses Gertrude, Alice and Mary Tully, who under the business name of Beacon Letter Service have been working with club officers for the past 33 years to keep Dartmouth alumni affairs strong in the Boston area.
As a surprise token of its appreciation the club presented the Tully sisters with a plaque which said:
Whereas the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston for many years has depended heavily upon the cheerful and efficient Services of the Beacon Letter Service, and
Whereas the officers and members of the Executive Committee of this Association desire to recognize formally this loyal and helpful relationship, now, therefore,
Be it hereby resolved that the official appreciation and gratitude of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston be extended to Gertrude B. Tully and her sisters Alice A. Tully and Mary J. Tully, the latter doing business as Beacon Letter Service, for their friendly and devoted service to Dartmouth and its alumni during the past thirtythree years.
Be it further resolved that this resolution be made a permanent part of the books and records of the Association.
(Signed) WESLEY H. BEATTIE, President RICHARD D. HILL, Treasurer
The plaque is the work of Mr. E. V. Yeuell of Maiden, Mass., the noted engraver, who is an honorary member of the Class of 1939, the class of his son, Robert Vernon Yeuell, who was killed in action in Germany in 1944 while serving as artillery captain. Mr. Yeuell's handsome design combines tones of gold and Dartmouth green, and now hangs in the office of the Tully sisters as one of their prized possessions.
The Misses Alice, Mary and Gertrude Tully with the plaque honoring them.
