The bright spot of the freshman competition this winter was, of course, the great record of the '62 track team which went undefeated in six dual meets. Tom Laris was the outstanding runner for the Pea Green contingent, but he was backed up by some able distance men and some topnotch candidates in other events. It looks as though Coach Noyes would have a good varsity squad coming up next winter.

Freshman basketball coach Tony Lupien had a rough season as the '62 squad faded toward the end of the season and finally emerged with a record of six wins against ten losses. Bob Meyer, a sharpshooting guard, was probably the top player on the squad, with Captain Bob Brower as another likely varsity candidate.

On the hockey front, Coach Eddie Jeremiah expects to get some help from a freshman team which was "just average" and compiled a 9-9-1 record for the season. First-line center Derek Buntain with Captain Warren Loomis and Mike Parrish on the wings form a strong forward line, while Tom Cranna was good on defense. However, the freshman team generally lacked defensive strength, particularly at goal.

Dartmouth's swimming hopes for next season will be helped out by a better-than-average freshman team which won five and lost three dual meets. Captain Terry Bentley was perhaps the top competitor as he set new freshman records in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events. Distance swimmers Lee Smith and Jack Hubbard, along with Bruce McCollom in the sprints, Chuck Hegerman in the dive and Jay Piersall and Chuck Allen in the backstroke, were other strong competitors for Coach Karl Michael.

The poorest freshman record was compiled by the squash team which lost all five matches of the season. Phil Meyer was the top player, ranked number one, with Jim Biggs, Doug Wahlgren, Bob Eder, Tad Cantril and John Ryder making up the squad.
