Warm congratulations are in order for Bill Kendall '33 who has just been appointed president of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Bill is one of the youngest top executives in the railroad business and his new position places him at the head of the second lamest railroad in the South. Following his graduation from Thayer School, Bill served as assistant track supervisor for the sylvania Railroad. Later he went with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, and in 1949, he was made general manager of the Clinchfield Railroad. L and N hired him in 1954 and since 1957 he has been vice president, general manager and director.
Congratulations are in order, also, for Martin Anderson TT'58 who temporarily is serving as a most efficient assistant to Dean Kimball. Martin has just been awarded a Ford Foundation Fellowship in Business Administration and is planning to use the generous $3800 stipend in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Industrial Economics at M.I.T.
Tom Hayden TT'58 has recently been promoted to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Division Manager of Microwave Associates in Burlington, Mass.
One further note on the class of 1958 is that Richard Bugbee (ME) is attending Gunnery School in Newport, R. I., as a Navy Ensign. Dick has managed to travel to Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Key West and Puerto Rico during his tour of duty.
We have received formal announcement from Paul Henegan CE'49 of the Henegan Construction Company, Inc. with offices at 10 East 43rd Street, New York. We all join in wishing Paul success in his new venture.
Announcement has also been received or the appointment of Edgar Abt TT'57 as a Systems Representative for International Business Machines Corporation in Concord, N. H.
On April 18 Dartmouth College is hosting the joint Spring Meeting of the American Society for Testing Materials and the N. H. Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dean Kimball '29 and Russ Stearns '38 are providing local guidance for the affair and Jim Browning D'44 is a featured programmer, speaking on the subject "Plasma Flame - A New Heat Source." Dartmouth and Thayer School will be honored indirectly at this meeting when the Dr. H. H. Lester Annual Award is to be given to Jerry Allyn ME'60.
loan and Bob McIlwain TT'51 announce the arrival on March 8 of Robert Moore McIlwain Jr., weighing in at 7 lbs., 4 oz.
The month of April gives every promise of being a busy and interesting one at the Thayer School. In addition to the meeting on the 18th, the ECPD visiting committee will be in Hanover from the 20th to the 23rd, the DSE Executive Committee will meet on the 24th and 25th, and the Biennial Thayer School Open House will be held on the 30th.
