At its 25th Reunion banquet on Saturday evening, June 20, the Class of 1934 formally announced that its 25-year gift to the College amounted to $281,000, with some 420 class members participating.
The total included both contributions made to the Class of 1934 Memorial Fund and pledges and gifts made by class members to the Capital Gifts Campaign of the College's 200th Anniversary Development Program.
In reporting these figures 1934's class officers pointed out that additional pledges and gifts could be expected and that the final total, expected to exceed $300,000, would not be announced until the complete Capital Gifts Campaign figures are available.
From this total gift, a sum of $157,000 - equal to the largest memorial fund gift, presented by the Class of 1933 - will be set aside as the permanent Class of 1934 Memorial Fund with annual income from this endowed fund going to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund in the class name.
Honored at the banquet for the leadership and effort they put into 1934's achievement were James F. Wendell, Class Memorial Fund chairman; William H. Scherman, class newsletter editor and Capital Campaign leader; and Harry B. Gilmore Jr., class agent.
