Both because of a shortage of space here, and a more (to me) acute shortage of time to write these notes before I set sail for a month's cruise as guest of the Navy on the flattop USS Wasp, the news of the reunion will be carried in the class letter by Butts Lamson, who was unanimously elected by the new executive committee as its first order of business.
I'll content myself with saying two things: (1) you'd have to feel it to believe it - the weather was incredible. Cold (at 50 degrees for Commencement the day before and not much better thereafter), rainy, and miserable. The Bevo Beers were good sports, but I hope Honduras was never like this. It has continued to be bad weather, with no sun-shine until Sunday and with rain sometime just the same. But we had fun. (2) Plans for the 40th are now under way, and we expect this to be a truly super affair. You'll hear a lot about it from time to time.
We had regrets from several who wanted to come but could not for one reason or another. The Larry Kugelmans were on a real fast track, with son Lawrence graduating on Sunday; and a daughter, Lynn, added by marriage to this same son on the 20th. Double congratulations to father and son and their wives. Joe Burleigh saw the irony of not being able to come from nearby Franklin with others from far away. Alex Gibson was counting on reunion after their trip to Europe last year, but wrote from Texas that family sickness kept them there. Dick Moyse, usually in London, had been as near as Connecticut on vacation but was back in London when reunion came along.
The Lamsons report a granddaughter, Nancy Lamson Koenig, born on June 7 to their daughter. Congratulations to parents and to Butts and Harriet.
In addition to the more usual reunion events which you will hear about in the Letter, special mention should be made of two unusual events. The Memorial Service, at which our Otis Jackson presided in the beautiful White Church, commemorated the departed classmates of 1923, 1924, and 1925. In addition to the 91 whose names were listed for 1924 on the program, three others must be added. You have seen the obituary notices for Russ Larcom and for Ralph Miller; news was received at the reunion of the sudden death recently of Bill Hatch. Details and our obituary will follow in the next issue of this MAGAZINE.
The second unusual event was 1924's excellent art exhibit which Dick Morin set up in Carpenter Hall. In addition to his own paintings, Stewart Eldredge from nearby Springfield, Vt., and Joe Butler, whose art gallery is well known in Youngstown, Ohio, exhibited in this medium. Sculpture was represented by Dave Rubins. We remind you, again, that your birthday card was contributed for your pleasure by Stew Eldredge.
Before adding the list, as near as we can obtain a correct one on short notice, I have to report one unhappy matter. Because of changes beyond my control, plans for the same motel for the fall football reunion (Brown, on October 10) have to be changed. I have a letter in the mail to all who asked to be taken care of. Write me if you need motel space. I'll try.
