WITH THE BIG GREEN TEAMS
JULY 1959

COMMENCEMENT at Dartmouth is just O three days away as this final report for the 1958-59 season is being penned, and the parents, alumni and friends in attendance will see some fine Dartmouth athletes receive diplomas.

This happens every year at colleges across our nation, but this June we feel a rousing Wah-Hoo-Wah is due those many fine young men of the Class of 1959 who played such an important part in compiling impressive results. Ivy League championships in football, basketball and hockey don't come often at any college and even less frequently in a single year. Dartmouth's Rugby Club earned nation-wide acclaim by its play and sportsmanship both here and in England. Dartmouth skiers continued the tradition of being among the best in the nation. The Rowing Club crews added new vigor to the athletic program and closed their season by meeting the best collegiate oarsmen in the nation at the tradition-studded I.R.A. Regatta.

Every month these columns have chronicled the results of Dartmouth teams and a little about the men who make them possible. Space always being at a premium, it is difficult to report adequately on either the contests or the individuals. Yet increasingly we recognize that the men making up all Dartmouth teams are bringing new luster to the pages of the Dartmouth record books and the College's athletic history.

So to the men of the Class of 1959 who did so much over the past four years to bring Dartmouth sports to a new high must go, on behalf of all alumni and members of the Dartmouth family, this very limited word of congratulation and thanks.
