The normally pleasant Rochester summer has come and gone all too quickly, and plans are being made and luncheons eaten to bring on the club's activities for Indian Summer (with the whistle of pigskin) and onslaught of winter.
Summer was not without activity, however. Pete Shedden '40. masterminded a picnic, and informed Bill and Pat Brandt '43 that it was to be at their house. Their hospitality was exceeded only by their surprise at their selection. Swimming, eating, and something which resembled baseball were some of the day's events, but some members were content merely to open cans provided with great gusto by Ernie Turner '33.
The annual golf tournament and dinner in September, with Dean McDonald as guest, is to mark the formal season's opening. Dartmouth Night will be celebrated by a midOctober stag and on November 12 a large flock of Rochesterians will witness the Indian invasion of Ithaca. Away off in March, the undefeated Dartmouth Glee Team will sing a joint concert with the glee clubs of the University of Rochester and Hamilton College, as a part of the regular Rochester Civic Music Association program.
Also under way is the enrollment drive led once again by John Osborn '45, Ed Leene'43, and our immediate past president, JackCarey '49. They hope this year to send to Hanover more than the 15 (out of 16 accepted) area students sent last year.
The club is happy to welcome back AlKarcher '51 from Texas and Dick Mayberry'44 from Chicago. Recent graduates in town are Phil Kron '60, Wallace Smith '58, AllanWalker '60, and Douglas Whitney '60. New arrivals in town include Dr. Larry Kretchmat'55, soon-to-be-doctor Phil Stoddard '58, and Stephen Beguin '59. We are sorry to see C.Wesley Dingman '54 off to Maryland, Randall Silver 'ssm to Vermont, and Ralph Watkins '51 to New York City. Ralph leaves behind many contributions to the club, and we will miss him.
The College's alumni in Mexico were honored recently at a luncheon given by United States Ambassador Robert C. Hill '42 at his embassy residence in Mexico City. Those attending included Clark Fletcher '38, Dan Slawson '25, Clark Blyth '28, Jack Daniell '24, Charlie Fisher '32, Gerald Garduno '42, Jesse Lichter '30, Dick McDonough '52, Mark Short '32, Jack Pike '27, Bob Pike '53, Al Schimacher '31, Luis Zalamea '42, Bill Jenkins '54, Rollie Kent '37, Bob Macaulay '24, Bill Carlson '46 and Alberto Vazquez.
