GIFTS to Dartmouth College from corporations for the fiscal year 1959-60 totaled $309,196, continuing the College's unbroken record of annual increases from this major source of support. The amount for the past fiscal year is a 500% increase over that received in 1954-55.
Corporate gifts continue to be largely unrestricted and for current use. The breakdown of the 1959-60 total shows: $41,028 in unrestricted grants, $35,369 in designated grants, $33,575 in unrestricted grants accompanying scholarships or fellowships, $66,216 for current use as financial aid, $55,168 in Capital Gifts Campaign matching gifts, $7,042 in Alumni Fund matching gifts, $32,251 to the Capital Gifts Campaign, $26,166 from the New England Colleges Fund, and $12,380 from the National Fund for Medical Education.
Direct grants were made to the College by 137 corporations, and approximately 350 contributed through the New England Colleges Fund. Among the largest direct grants were those made by General Motors Corporation, The Chase Manhattan Bank Foundation, General Electric Company, the McCarthy-Hicks Foundation, Esso Education Fund, The Young and Rubicam Foundation, Gulf Oil Corporation, The Procter and Gamble Fund, United States Steel Foundation and Phelps Dodge Corporation.
