For the first time in six years varsity coach Bob Blackman can count on drawing his players from an undefeated freshman football team. This '64 club, coached by Earl Hamilton and Bill Graver, not only had a tremendous season - six wins, no defeats - but exhibited the "come from behind" quality so important in the game of football.

Talent seems to abound. Dana Kelly of Winchester, Mass., is a top quarterback who plays heads-up ball and is an excellent passer. Bill Madden of Elyria, Ohio, and Ron Schram of Grosse Pointe, Mich., are also quarterbacks of better-than-average caliber.

Leading the halfback contingent is Ed Vancura of Lockport, Ill., a breakaway runner who is rated the speediest halfback in years. Tom Spangenberg of Darien, Conn., is a fast, hard runner and excellent punter, while Delaware's Bob Burton and Al Lawson of Knoxville, Tenn., are both good prospects at halfback.

Two big fullbacks should be stepping up to the varsity next fall. Tom Parkinson of Amherst, Mass., is regarded as an excellent defensive player and good pass-receiver, and Joe Triolo of Sharon Hill, Pa., has moved over from halfback and is a good ball carrier and excellent blocker.

The freshman end squad is the tallest in years with five players standing 6'2" or better. Hugh Harris of Haddon Heights, N. J., and Jon Dephouse of Muskegon, Mich., are both rugged 200-pounders who love contact. Charlie Greer of Fort Collins, Colo., is the speediest of the ends, Joe Batchelder of Peoria, Ill., is regarded as the best blocker, and Scott Creelman of Melrose, Mass., as the top pass-catcher.

The tackle squad is equally impressive with Cincinnati's Dave Stenger and Stan Gemborys of Gardner, Mass., both weighing 240 pounds, and just as rugged. Bob Brayton of Springfield, Mass., Bill Curran of Portland, Maine, Lynn McCanse of Kansas City, and Charles Pittman of Toledo, Ohio, are a quartet of very promising guards. Captain Jim Grace of Canton, Miss., is an outstanding center - particularly on offense. Whit Foster of West Newton, Mass., is the top defensive center and linebacker.

Now, turning from football, we have a report on the Dartmouth varsity soccer team by its new head coach, Alden H. "Whitey" Burnham. Whitey has stepped into Tom Dent's shoes and done a mighty creditable job. He'll be coaching varsity lacrosse come spring, but now he'll tell you about his first soccer season with the Big Green:
