This column began last month with a letter from John Cassin. This month we must begin with the following from Mrs. Cassin:

"To the Dartmouth Class of '94, acknowledging with grateful appreciation your very kind and thoughtful expression of sympathy Nettie J. Cassin." For sketch of our departed classmate see "In Memoriam."

Sanford Martyn '26 sends this word about his mother's death which took place December 24, 1958:

"Fortunately, Mother did not have to experience any great or extended suffering and was confined to her bed only during the last few days, when she seemed to sense that God was taking her and she found peace of mind in the realization that she would soon be with Father. They were very close to each other for many many years."

"The United Church Herald" is the publication of the new United Church of Christ formed by the union between the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. This is the union to the furthering of which the writer of this column has devoted a good deal of time in recent years. In its issue of December 24 The Herald carries a news item entitled "Riverside Church Ordains Woman Minister." Riverside Church will be recognized as the one brought to such distinction by the long pastorate of Harry Emerson Fosdick, and now being led with comparable distinction by Robert J. McCracken. The "woman minister" being ordained, and the first woman minister to serve on the staff of that church, is Phyllis Taylor, daughter of the man whom '94 used to call "Shorty" Taylor because of his unusual height. Moreover, Miss Taylor is the first son or daughter of '94 to be ordained to the Christian ministry. Before coming to Riverside Church Miss Taylor had had twenty years' experience in personnel work and received the Bachelor of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary last May. At Riverside Church Miss Taylor will do pastoral work in the parish program and will serve as liaison officer with various church organizations.

Travel Notes: Louise Claggett Gaines and her husband had returned so recently from three months in Europe that they did not feel they could come to the Sixty-Fifth Reunion. The same reason kept Elizabeth Jenks from coming. In mid-August she started for London by jet and before she returned she had covered parts of Scandinavia, Poland and Russia. "Moscow proved to be the highlight of the trip. It is a beautiful city and a very interesting one."

California Notes: Mary Bartlett of Pasadena says about the Round-Up: "I shall not be flying over but send my very best wishes and a God bless you to 'tattered' but undaunted gallant '94." Barbara Griffin Langer of Sunnyvale writes: "So nice to get your letter and it was wonderful having so many at the Reunion. . . . Keep me on your list as I am always interested in '94."

Hats off again to the Great Class of '99. EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-SIX reported as the number of the Class Family! The marvel is not only the number but much more that records have been kept by former and present Class Secretaries so that the number is known.
