January's big news was Charlie Brown's announcement of the interim appointment of our new Head Agent to fill out the unexpired term of Rusty Hartranft until our reunion in '61. Warren Kreter, general agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in New York City, has enthusiastically agreed to keep '42 on top for the next two years knowing that with Margaret's moral support and his classmates' positive interest, it can be done. In a letter to Charlie, Crate had this to say:

It is with fear and trepidation that I accept your call to duty as Class Agent for the next two years. Your letter was mighty persuasive to a fellow that had a real struggle in Section 25 of English I at Dartmouth.

Following in the footsteps of Dick and Rusty is a real challenge. As a result I have given this a great deal of thought and talked with Rusty, Dick Baldwin and Jack Dodd '22, the regional director for Class Agents. They convinced me that I was ideally suited for the job as I have very little hair to lose. Seriously Charlie, I consider it an honor to be asked to serve in this capacity. Our class has always done a magnificent job and I'll do my best to keep us on top for the next two years.

Crate, whose home is in Massapequa, Long Island, has been continuously active in the local Dartmouth Club and interviewing activities as well as having years of experience in the capacity of assistant agent. Here's to two years of gratifying work, Crate, the class is all with you.

Dick Cardozo, active in a cardiac research program at the Dartmouth Medical School, was appointed to the staff of Hitchcock Clinic on January first where he joins others involved in an expanding program for the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases in children and adults. This program will include increased personnel and facilities for the Cardiac Clinic and Diagnostic Unit and the development of all aspects of surgery for heart disease, including open heart surgery and the use of an artificial heart lung machine. As a surgeon, this is a field which Dick has aggressively pursued throughout his medical career from his years as intern at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston through associations including work abroad in 1955-56 at St. Mary's Hospital in London, England, to his current position with the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction where he is on the staff as assistant chief of the Surgical Service.

Secondary education is a major concern to most of us these days and it is noteworthy that another classmate, John Glaze, is taking an active part in those problems. John, who is a sales representative for the Hooker Chemical Corporation, has accepted a position to serve on Bedminster, N. J., Township Board of Education where he has been a resident for the past six years. His major responsibility is that of chairman of the Transportation Committee.

Following a period as staff geologist with the Metallurgy Department of International Minerals & Chemical Corporation, Elliott Dressner is now Chief Ore Engineer with Lone Star Steel in Lone Star, Texas, having recently moved Mary and his three daughters to a home in Longview. At the University of California is Bill Fowler as a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health. Bill has, for a number of years, been active in the field of education.

Beating Leap Year to the punch, Howie Halfman married Priscilla Ann Mathewson of Laconia, N. H., last November and spent their honeymoon in the Caribbean. Howie and his bride are now settled on Governor's Island in Laconia where he maintains his practice as an orthopedic surgeon. Following graduation from Columbia University School of Medicine in 1945, Howie was with the U. S. Public Health Service before setting up his own practice.

To everyone enjoying a winter vacation, whether North or South, have fun and don't forget to let Lipp or me know where you've been and what you've done.
