THE COLLEGE
February 1960

THE first month of 1960 set a pace in campus events that would have all hands exhausted if it continued without let-up. Beginning with the DOC's fiftieth anniversary assemblage on January 2 and 3, and then the appearance of Pierre Mendes-France, former Premier of France, on the opening day of the winter term, January has offered a rapid-fire sequence of lectures, plays, four concerts, films, meetings, and athletic events. With the Board of Trustees and Alumni Council both meeting in Hanover on January 22-23, 'he weekend was made the occasion of the month's top event, a formal dinner in Commons signaling the successful completion of the Capital Gifts Campaign and the first third of the fifteen-year period that Dartmouth is using to get "a running start" on its third century beginning in 1969.
