March 1960

WITH Dartmouth College and The Phillips Academy, Andover, as co- sponsors, an eight-week Summer Institute for Teachers of High School Mathematics will be held this summer at Andover. Thanks to financial support from the National Science Foundation, some fifty math teachers from all over the country will be able to attend the institute without cost. Each will receive a $600 stipend from NSF for room and board.

In addition to courses in Finite Math and Basic Concepts of the Calculus given for teachers, the institute will offer special instruction in math to 25 selected high school students. Members of the Dartmouth Mathematics Department who will teach at the summer institute are Profs. John G. Kemeny, Robert Z. Norman, J. Laurie Snell, and Richard E. Williamson. Donald L. Fien, teaching fellow in mathematics, will be assistant director of the institute, which will have Mr. Richard Pieters of Andover as director.
