Because of the opposition of Robert K. Hage '35, Dartmouth's director of financial aid, the following paragraph did not appear in the annual report of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans, but the Committee got around that by printing up a supplement. This is what Mr. Hage objected to:

The committee's wish is to record its appreciation of the vigorous, efficient, and imaginative direction given by Mr. Hage to Dartmouth's over-all program of financial assistance to undergraduates. We note with satisfaction that the respect that we have for his qualities is increasingly shared by those concerned with college scholarship problems on a national scale. He has recently been appointed a member of the committee which directs the College Scholarship Service of the College Entrance Examination Board, and he continues to serve as chairman of the Computation Subcommittee of the CSS and a member of its Operations Subcommittee. He is a member of the Needs Analysis Group of the Educational Testing Service, recommending policy and individual grants to large sponsored scholarship programs. We have become aware in undoubtedly an incomplete way of Mr. Hage's participation as Consultant, speaker, and director of "clinics" and "workshops" in connection with numerous gatherings sponsored by colleges, intercollegiate groups, and corporations interested in scholarship matters. It is naturally a delight to this committee to see our colleague recognized as one of the "old pros" in what is in fact a new profession of great and growing importance on the national scene.
