The Big Green lacrosse team opened its season officially on April 16 by overwhelming Middlebury, 13-1. Spike Hamilton scored Dartmouth's first goal within one minute of play and the Indians led 6-1 at half time. Sophomore attackman John Walters was high scorer with two goals and four assists, while Al Rozycki, Jack Hodgson and sophomore Dave Usher also had two tallies apiece.

A previous game with Holy Cross had been cancelled because of weather conditions.

After only one good practice session the Dartmouth lacrosse team, coached by Tom Dent, headed south in late March. They were defeated by the Quantico Marines, 11-8, and by Baltimore, 15-8, before winning the final game over Towson Teachers College, 12-1. On this trip Coach Dent was particularly pleased by the fine goal tending of Captain Dick Chase, who was switched from midfield. Sophomores John Walters and Dave Usher, both attack men, looked very promising, although an injury to Jack Patterson, a veteran up front, hurt the Big Green in these early games. Defense is Coach Dent's biggest problem this year with only John Tuerk, a converted midfielder, John Sly, a junior, and sophomore J. C. Williams regarded as promising.

Some mainstays of this year's varsity baseball team: (from left to right) Chuck Kaufman '60, shortstop; Dick Marrone '61, third base; Roger McArt '61, second base; Coach Tony Lupien; and George "Woody" Woodworth '60, catcher, who is also captain of the team.
