Chairman of the Year
June 1960

Reg Bankart '35 was honored as Class Chairman of the Year at the Dartmouth class officers' annual meeting in Hanover on May 13. He was cited by the awards committee as follows:

Ever since publication of your children's book about monkeys, your classmates have been convinced that you should serve them and your College in the highest possible offices! This year finds you completing 15 years of dedicated service, first as class secretary and then class chairman.

Because, or in spite of, this monkey business you have moved upward steadily to senior vice-president in your advertising firm, and are a past President of the Dartmouth Club of New York. Then, there is the simple fact that you are a Dartmouth Bankart. In case you've forgotten, you are the nephew of G. Norman Bankart '06 and Lawrence H. '10, and the cousin of Charles L. '25 and Norman M. '29, and the brother of Robert C. '37 and, of course, the son of Henry R. '09, and the father of Henry R. III who, we hope, will be a senior in 1969 when the College celebrates her bicentennial.

Interesting as your background is, we honor you tonight because of your accomplishments in behalf of a great Dartmouth class. Characteristically, we find you leading '35's biggest and most significant undertaking since graduation the 25th Reunion next month.

The Awards Committee has suggested that your selection as Class Chairman of the Year will probably be one of the most popular announcements ever made in Hanover. The response you are about to hear will verify that pleasant and safe prediction.
