AN ENROLLMENT GUESS
October 1961

Any attempt to arrive at an enrollment figure prior to the registration of upperclassmen is risky business, but having had pretty good luck at this guessing game in recent years, the ALUMNI MAGAZINE is emboldened to estimate a record undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2960 men this fall. The previous high figure was 2931 two years ago.

The freshman class this fall numbers 806 men, the third class to exceed the 800 mark since 1960 first broke through with 805 and 1963 arrived with 842 two Septembers ago. If the usual rate of summer attrition holds, there will be approximately 625 seniors, 720 juniors, 750 sophomores, and 60 undergraduates from classes prior to 1961. This estimated undergraduate total of 2960 would be fifty higher than last fall's 2910.

The enrollment total for graduate students at the Medical, Tuck and Thayer Schools will definitely be higher, coming to approximately 185 as compared with 159 last fall. This year's grand total of full-time students is therefore estimated at 3145 or 75 more than last fall ... all subject to the reality of registration.
