In support of the College's work in the field of human relations an endowment fund of $250,000 has been given to Dartmouth by the Lincoln and Theresa Filene Foundation. In establishing the Lincoln Filene Endowment in Human Relations the Foundation has permanently provided funds for activities it has financed here for the past three years on an experimental basis.
These activities have included faculty research in human relations, undergraduate research projects, an interdepartmental course in human relations, and the Lincoln Filene Lectureship by which outstanding scholars are brought to the campus. The faculty research so far has centered on social behavior and the development of new techniques for more effective human relations training. The Filene-supported program has led to a number of publications, and the staff at present is making a study of the values of undergraduates.
Lincoln Filene, whose name the endowment fund bears, was a noted Boston merchant and philanthropist, who had a life-long interest in improving the working relations among individuals within organizations. Not a college graduate, Mr. Filene had a long and friendly interest in Dartmouth, which awarded him an honorary Master of Arts degree in 1916.
