Despite the rain, the passing of Dick Rohrbach, and the heavier Brown line, the Indians continued to roll. This time the score was 34-0 and the statistics were just as impressive. While the Bruins gained only 50 yards on the ground, the Indians accumulated 247. Brown also had 74 yards through the air, and Dartmouth had 78. In first downs, however, the Indians led nineteen to six. That's where the story of the game lies.
The first Green touchdown came mid- way in the first quarter on a King-to-Vancura pass that covered seven yards. The sophomore halfback was deep in the end zone when he took the pass going away. This marked the beginning of the end for Brown.
The Bruins took the ensuing kick-off, but in three plays lost six yards and were forced to punt. Gary Spiess took the ball on the Dartmouth 41, cut to his left and behind good blocking sprinted 59 yards to the Brown end zone. Again Wellstead's kick was good and the Indians led 14-0.
Early in the second period the Indians were driving again. Starting from their own 21, they moved easily until they reached midfield. There they stalled momentarily until King connected with end Charlie Greer on a pass that netted sixteen yards. Seven plays later the Green had the ball on the twelve-yard line, with only three yards required for a first down. An offensive holding penalty, though, set the Indians back to the 24 where it was third and fifteen. At that point King dropped back and passed to Dave Usher in the end zone for another touchdown.
A BIG WEEKEND for Alumni and the Green
In the second half it was more of the same as the Indians opened with a 64 yard drive that culminated in a 13-yard end sweep by Krumme for six points. The drive took fifteen plays and netted three more first downs.
The final Dartmouth touchdown came midway in the third quarter. Brown was forced to punt from its own 27, but a bad pass from center went over the punter's head, and it was the Green's ball first and goal to go on the Brown six. On third down, King went over on a wedge play.
The game marked the fifth year in a row that Brown has been held scoreless by the Green. Credit should also be given to the Dartmouth backs who, despite the rain and slippery field, never fumbled throughout the entire game.
Spirits were not dampened by the rain, but theGreen bowed to Brown in soccer by a 2-1 score.
The Indians' cross-country team opened the homecoming weekendwith a victory over Yale and Columbia on the Hanover course.
Neither a wet field nor Brown could keep the Green from rollingup its third victory or Chris Vancura (21) from a five-yard gain.
