ALONG with the data on the present freshman class, the report to secondary schools announced that the Dartmouth Plaque, awarded annually to that school whose delegation of four or more men attains the highest scholastic average for the freshman year, was won by The Bronx High School of Science in New York, whose four graduates in the Class of 1964 attained an average of 3.783 out of a possible 5.0.
Other schools in the top ten were Mamaroneck (N. Y.) High School, 3.638; St. Paul's School, Concord, N. H., 3.424; Spring Valley (N. Y.) High School, 3.416; Central High School, Manchester, N. H., 3.305; Horace Mann School, New York, 3.277; Brighton High School, Rochester, N. Y., 3.222; Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, D. C., 3.194; Scarsdale (N. Y.) High School, 3.193; and Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School, 3.174.
Last year's academic average for the Class of 1964 as a whole was 2.962, a very strong showing. Total freshman year attrition, including separations, suspensions, and voluntary withdrawals, was only 3.9%, a record low.
