WIVES OF 1949s ... NOW READ THIS!
Katharine, keeper of Harry (Randall), lives in Westwood, N. J., kindly, concernedly, lucidly writes to us, while her fat husband doesn't bother. "Randall and Randall (Harry Sr. and Jr. law firm) built their new law offices, moved in just before Christmas. As it is about ten yards from our back door, we have no commuting problem. I could watch him from the kitchen window to make sure the secretaries are behaving, but I just don't have the time. Our four keep me running. Mary Ruth arrived last September, which means that Tom (three) is surrounded by girls. (Harry always enjoyed this.) Harry was elected a Trustee of the Bergen County Bar Association and a Director of the Hillsdale National Bank. He is still a Councilman, and has recently, been elected President of the Council. He is an officer of the local Rotary... and so on into the night. All is quite well with us except for three cases of chicken pox, admittedly a minor concern."
Wives who have read the above kind, concerned, lucid note ... get into print. You're all Feminists at heart. Express your secret yearnings to leave your flaccid husbands in the dust. Write your innermost longings to this column. See address above.
You Read It First In This Column. Bergamini writes the American Novel. Actually it's Philippine. It's about a boy whose experiences in a Jap prison camp during the Second World War somewhat parallel the author's. I never realized that David was born in Tokyo, the son of an architect of church missions; perhaps you did, knowing him better. At any rate, the New York Times indicates in its review of "The Fleet in the Window" (Simon and Schuster, a mere $4,95) that this first novel is an exciting one. You read. You like. Or money back. David is on the editorial staff of LIFE, concerned with the science department. Penelope keeps him and second generation David, out in Rowayton, Conn.
