From beautiful upstate New York, not far from the mountains of Vermont, Phil Berke writes that he and wife Linda are living in Granville, N.Y., where Phil is a practicing attorney. After serving for six years as Washington County district attorney, Phil decided not to seek re-election a year ago and entered private practice. He also serves as Granville village attorney. The Berkes live with their two daughters in a home that they built in Granville. The family enjoys tennis, golf, and skiing in Vermont. Dartmouth activities for Phil include interviewing prospective candidates from Washington County for the past ten years and serving as secretary-treasurer for the nearby Glen Falls Alumni Club. Phil and Linda are hoping to attend the reunion in June 1979, where Phil will be looking for old friend Bob Nathanson, whom he hasn't seen since 1961.

I'm particularly appreciative of the postscript from Joe Jacquet's wife Judy. Joe wrote that he was employed by Nomandeau Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting firm located in Bedford, N.H. He is in charge of all of the purchasing activities for the company. Judy, in addition to trying to keep up with three teenage sons, is a nurse in the emergency room of the Lowell, Mass., General Hospital. Joe recently completed six years as a selectman for Hudson, N.H., and soon will go on the board of directors of the Matthew Thornton Health Plan. The part I liked was Judy's comment on the back of the letter saying Joe was "very modest" about his active participation in a variety of civic projects and his work as a Boy Scout advisor. Does your wife think of you as modest? A terrific compliment! Everyone who knew Joe at Dartmouth would agree. He was quiet, determined, and always ready to pitch in when needed. The Jacquets will be at the reunion in June 1979.

Congratulations to Class Newsletter Editor Larry Weltin on his recent election to the presidency of Lillian, Neal, Weltin, Inc., of Atlanta. This advertising agency was created by the merger of the Weltin agency with another established firm. Since Larry moved to Atlanta several years ago, his agency had grown steadily. Benefiting from Larry's creativity and energetic drive, I am sure his clients see substantial results.

Another classmate who has an outstanding record of service to his community is JohnGoodnow of Keene, N.H. John was recently elected president of the Keene Family YMCA, partly in recognition of his work during a campaign to expand and remodel the facility. John practices law and lives with wife Mary and a son and a daughter, in Keene, where he was born. He prepped for Dartmouth at Phillips Exeter. After graduation John served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps and studied law at Boston University Law School, where he was editor of the law review. His civic involvement includes serving as the president of the Monadnock United Fund, as director of Monadnock Family & Mental Health Service, and director of Cheshire Hospital, to name only a few. He is also a director of Cheshire National Bank, Troy Mills, Inc., and J. A. Wright & Co. He is a former commissioner of the N.H. Commission on Human Rights. That is a fantastic record, John. When do you find time to practice law?

When necessary, forced by the utter paucity of information from all of you, I plumb the dim reaches of my fading memory. The results may be evocative but rarely will be entirely accurate. The little piece on the track team generated a substantial amount of comment, all appreciated. John Diggs took time from his medical practice in Winslow, Maine, to point out that Jon Stokesbary "vaulted off the wrong foot!" Sorry, that escaped me, Dr. Diggs, but now the record is straight. I always envied you your lean and whippy build and it certainly complimented your good vaulting form. And yes, Tom Green was out there muscling the iron with those other big guys. 1 recall the esprit and enthusiasm of "T" Green for any sport, but remember the big smile better.

As I write this, our class Alumni Fund performance is in midstream. By the time you read it, I'll predict that the Class, spurred by JoelPortugal and assisted by the finest group of agents yet assembled, will be ringing up new records for the College. If you haven't done your share, or if you can increase your gift before the books are closed, do it today. Dartmouth needs and deserves our support.

There are a couple of notes before concluding until next fall. If you can, join the class minireunion in Hanover on October 14, 1978, before the Dartmouth-Yale Game. As for the 20th reunion, June 15-17, 1979, contact your old friends and make plans and reservations right now. Those who live in the West and Southwest should think about chartering a plane. Get organized. We will never have another 20th reunion, so don't miss this one. And finally, take a few minutes this summer to write to me. My goal is to provide news on as many classmates as possible before we assemble in Hanover in June '79.
