The hardy settlers of Long Island should beware. Hundreds o£ local wigwams will be vacant on the night of March 25, 1961. On this Saturday night the Long Island braves and squaws 'will be attending the First Annual War Dance for the benefit of the Long Island Scholarship Fund. The squaws in particular have been waiting for this event for many moons. The powwow is being held at the Garden City Casino where Jimmy "Big Beat" Smith and his war party will provide the coolest drums this side of Massapequa.
Dance Committee chief Larry "Hawkeye"Smith '55 reports his group is working around the sundial to assure a record powwow. Carll "Ancient One" Buhler '30 and his smoke signal committee is busy rounding up the renegades. Bill "Tall Train" Colton'60 has the presses running continuously printing the Wanted posters, tickets, press releases, etc. Cliff "Little Brother" Smith '62 and his scouting party have been busy in Hanover for months rounding up the braves to form the largest undergraduate invasion of Long Island since the heyday of the Shinnecocks. Other braves active in the dance preparations are Barry Bockus '56, Jim Flynn '56,Art Bailey '56 and Alan Congdon '55.
The Chief of the Long Island Alumni tribe, John "Fitzgerald" Wold '32, reports that this "gala" will become the highlight of the Long Island social season. He urges all local alumni to polish up their moccagsins, buy their squaw a new buffalo hide, contact the local Sitting Bull, and travel on the old cayuse to the great gathering place.
On other fronts Doc Higgins '35, the local medicine man, has been scottting the local deer hunters and reports a bumper crop this year. Jack "Sand in Your Hair" Coulson '39 reports that plans for the Eighth Annual Gilgo Outing at Jones Beach on Sunday June 25, 1961 are well under way.
