A BILL authorizing enlargement of the Dartmouth Board of Trustees from twelve to sixteen members successfully passed both branches of the New Hampshire Legislature and last month was signed into law by Governor Wesley Powell.

The Trustees at their spring meeting in Hanover on April 21-22 formally accepted the State's authorization. It is expected that when action is taken later to add four members to the Board, the positions will be filled by two new Life Trustees and two new Term Trustees.

This will be the first enlargement of the Board since Dartmouth's charter was granted in 1769. The state legislature once before, in 1891, passed a bill authorizing an increase from twelve to seventeen members, but the Board never acted upon it and the authorization expired.
