Captured on the high seas! Who? Henry Bates '16, that's who. He and his wife were aboard the Santa Maria when Portuguese renegade Galvao and his band took command of the pleasure ship. Mr. Bates gave a first hand account of the "piracy" at a recent luncheon of the Club. He could give us a particularly good inside story because he was one of a committee of three who represented the passengers in their negotiations with Galvao. We were particularly pleased to learn that the Americans aboard conducted themselves admirably during the entire harrowing experience.
Two of our representatives to the New Frontier also attended the luncheon. Sal Andretta '20 and Lou Oberdorfer '39 are Assistant Attorneys General and touch football players (not necessarily in order of importance). Well, at least they're not all Harvard men. Say, I wonder where these fellows went to law school?
