Ed Spiegel, head class agent for 1953, was awarded the John R. Mason Trophy at the class officers' dinner in Hanover on May 5. He was cited as follows for being the outstanding head agent of the youngest ten classes in the i960 campaign:

Now in your fourth year as Head Agent of the Class of 1953 you have compiled a record unequaled by the Head Agent of any younger alumni class. In the 1958 Campaign, your first year of leadership, the Class of 1953 won the Group VII Tribal Sweepstakes competition achieving 110% participation, $6,577 and a record high for all Dartmouth classes of 578 donors. During 1959 you and your Agents helped intensively with the Capital Gifts Campaign and again 1953 led all younger classes with pledges and gifts totaling $100,000 from 520 donors. Immediately following this aid-out effort you led your class back into the Alumni Fund fold in 1960 to win the Group VII Green Derby competition and set a new contributor record for all classes with 581 givers. Behind these achievements are many months of dedicated and thoughtful effort on your part, the assistance of the class officers and executive committee of the Class of 1953, a large and strong team of Class Agents and, above all, the understanding and generosity of an unusually large segment of your class. It is a particular pleasure for the Alumni Fund Committee to honor both you and your class this evening by presenting you, as the outstanding Head Agent of the youngest ten classes, with the John R. Mason Trophy for 1960.
