Coach Whitey Burnham's soccer team is sporting a 2-1 record as this is written. Its defense must be considered among the best in New England with only three goals scored against it.
The University of Connecticut was shut out in the opener 1-0, and the following week Pennsylvania was beaten 3-1. The lone Quaker goal skidded through goalie Dave Smoyer's legs as he crouched down to stop the wet, slippery ball. The heavy rain and wet ground was a handicap to both teams. Substitute George Martin tied the game at 1-1 and Ivars Bebris scored two goals to give the Green the victory.
At Brown, the Indian soccermen ran into another defense-conscious team and lost 2-0. Both Brown goals were tough chances. One came on a corner kick which caromed off a Bruin head into the nets, and the second score was a solid shot which was just too hard to handle.
Coach Burnham has filled the gap on the right side of his front line with Rusty Turmail, a junior, at outside right and Ted Muller and Ned Rilley alternating at the inside right position. The rest of the line-up has remained the same as reported last month.
