Greetings to you all and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year. Hope to see you at our informal 56th reunion in 1963 in Hanover at which time we all can take a good look at the wonderful Hopkins Center as well as the Nervi-designed field house and other new construction.
Wendall Churchill spent a few days in the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in September and is feeling much better. Due to sickness he could not attend our 50th, or our 55th reunion, but still has hopes to come to the 60th. Wonderful, Wendall! That's the Dartmouth spirit!
Wilfred Smart recovered from bronchial pneumonia in October. Bill was home sick for three weeks but says that he is feeling much better now. Keep improving, Bill, so that we can climb the "Bartlett Tower" again next June.
The Keene, N.H., School Board has accepted with regret the resignation of Don Jason Williams as truant officer which is not to become effective until a successor is found. Don has had this job since 1917. Congratulations on your 45 years of service to your community!
John R. McLane and Elizabeth recently flew to Scotland and while there enjoyed a two weeks' trip throughout the countryside via automobile. It's nice to know that Judge is feeling much better.
Albert Kitching and "Bishop" Niles attended the Penn vs. Dartmouth game at Hanover. They sat together and enjoyed the game but got soaking wet during the rain, and I am told that one or the other got so wet that before returning home they had to buy new clothing. They sure got soaked, didn't they?
Lucy, wife of our beloved classmate, "Dick" Lane, is sorry to inform your secretary that "Dick" has had a heart attack and has been in the hospital, but is now back home slowly recovering. Lucy says: "Keep your health, it is very precious." We agree and all your classmates, "Dick," will be praying that you get well soon.
Had a nice letter from Carlotta, wife of Earl T. Richards, who passed away last April. Her new address is Greenwich Lodge, 47 Lafayette Place, Greenwich, Conn.
"Bob" Kenyon and Lura left Concord, N. H., for Florida after voting on November 6. Their winter address is Box 322, Anna Maria, Fla. They attended the Holy Cross vs. Dartmouth game at Hanover which was some football game, and had the biggest game attendance that they had ever seen in Hanover. The traffic was very heavy that day.
Birthdays of classmates in December are: 4, Harry Porter; 6, Norman Coombs; 7, Earle Fowler; 9, Leon Sprague; 13, Arthur Leavitt; 17, James O'Neill; 21, Samuel Garvin; 27, Fred Lena; 28, Charles Richardson, and 31, Harold Niles.
Bill and Edith Sanborn visited the Grebensteins on Saturday afternoon, October 27, and we viewed the Harvard vs. Dartmouth game on TV (WHDH channel) for the first time. A very special program was set up, introducing Presidents Dickey and Pusey who spoke, after which the players of both teams were shown individually in their classrooms; then the Harvard and Dartmouth bands, the team captains and umpires and referees on the field and finally the game which Dartmo uth won 24-6.
The TV program was exceedingly interesting and a truly wonderful broadcast for both Dartmouth and Harvard showing the kind of football played. The Columbia Broadcasting Company and its personnel should be congratulated.
