A GIFT of $25,000 from the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund for Cancer Research has made possible the acquisition of this electron microscope for the Dartmouth Medical School's Department of Microbiology. In the photograph Dr. Samuel F. Conti, electron microscopist, is seated at the instrument, and Dr. R. Clinton Fuller, chairman of the department, looks on.

The electron microscope, the second now in use at the Medical School, will be an invaluable aid to the program in cancer research. Dr. Conti will be one of its most frequent users in connection with his own work in the field of microbial cell structure and in collaboration with others in the Medical School whose research requires electron microscopy, in which he is a specialist.

With the electron microscope Medical School researchers can photograph specimens smaller than a millionth of an inch in diameter.
