DURING the joint Trustee-Alumni
March 1962

DURING the joint Trustee-Alumni Council meetings in Hanover in January a ceremony was held marking the presentation of the gift of the Lincoln Ellsworth papers to the Stefansson Collection of Baker Library. The acquisition was made possible through the generosity of Mr. Howard T. Clark of Cleveland. Ellwood H. Fisher '21 (left, above) president of the Alumni Council and also a resident of Cleveland, made the presentation in behalf of Mr. Clark. Dr. and Mrs. Vilhjalmur Stefansson (also shown) received the gift for the College. Orton H. Hicks '21, vice president of the College, presided at the ceremony which was followed by an informal coffee hour.

Lincoln Ellsworth, the famous arctic and antarctic explorer, was perhaps best known to the world for his pioneering flight over the South Pole in 1935. In addition to the gift of Ellsworth documents from Mr. Clark's own files, papers were presented to the Stefansson Collection by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This unprecedented action was the result of efforts by Mr. Clark, who is the chairman of the Museum's board of trustees, and Mr. William Scheele, director of the Cleveland Museum. These papers had been in the Museum's collections for about thirty years, having come principally from Lincoln Ellsworth and Sir Hubert Wilkins.
