The track team is currently nursing a three-meet losing streak. After a 75 1/3-37 2/3 victory over Maine, the Indians bowed to Manhattan 66½-42½, Yale 64½-44½, and Harvard by the close margin of 57-52.
Against the Cantabs, the Green dominated the relays, winning both events. The one-mile quartet included Jerry Ashworth, Dud Hallagan, Tom Holzel, and Lang Scott. The two-mile aggregation was made up of Pete Wells, Nick Jennison, Tom Laris and Jeff Burnham.
An encouraging sign in the field events was the performances turned in by Henry Jenckes and Bob Cahners, who both threw the weight over 54 feet for a two, three finish. Vaulter Fred Bates cleared thirteen feet to win his event against Harvard.
Turning to other teams, the wrestlers have had only one match since our last report. In that the Green grapplers were beaten by the Coast Guard Academy 21-9. The match marked the final Dartmouth coaching assignment for Coach Bill Craver who left February 1 for Colorado State University where he will serve as assistant football coach. Against the Coast Guard the Green put together three wins: Karl DuPuy in the 130- pound class; Floyd Moore at 157 and Lee Batemen in the heavyweight division. The wrestlers, now under the mentorship of Coach Whitney Burnham, have two matches remaining with Massachusetts and M.I.T.
The squash team has managed a couple of upsets, but the racketmen now stand 4-5 for the season. The team registered victories against Wesleyan 8-1 and a strong Army team 5-4, but in recent weeks was beaten by Williams 5-4, and Yale, 7-2. Wally Lord of Belmont, Mass. has compiled the best record to date winning six out of nine matches.
The Williams encounter was just as close as the final score. Phil Meyer playing number one lost 3-2 as did Bob Kaplan. In fact all five matches won by Williams were by the same 3-2 margin. Hop Potter, Dave Smoyer and Lord won their respective matches for the Green.
