This is written during the count-down; we're in the New York area seeing the grandchildren (Sylvia's) and relatives; last-minute shopping, escape from the telephone in Hanover, this final week. Thanks to many who sent bon voyage messages - and to Bill McNiff for his annual St. Pat's card. We sail, Export line, on March 28. We hope to see Alma and Pete Wheatley (who sailed on the Vulcania March 14 for Italy and Spain) in Barcelona. Sorry we won't meet Dick and Dolores Morin in England or France, but we look forward to seeing DickMoyse who works in London. We wish we might fly over to Mallorca both to see this lovely island (as the Wheatleys planned) and to toast Henry Hudson and his new family of almost one year. Several of us met Frances after the football game in the fall of 1961. He now has a 19-year-old daughter Sara who is in school in London. The description of their island home sounds wonderful, up on a cliff above the beach. They'll be coming home about as you read this; back to Nahant. We hope they will join us again for the Penn game.
Which reminds me to brief you on the details of the fall reunion. Time: Penn game, October 6 weekend. Place: Bonnie Oaks again, by popular acclaim after two years there. First come, first served, especially for rooms in the Lodge; some prefer the individual-couple's cottages or larger units. I'll write each of you. I have reservations for come late August. It will help if everyone would confirm or make reservations directly to Borden Avery, Norwich Inn, Norwich, Vt.
As of March 21, I have these reservations by request: Wheatleys, Van Huycks, and Herseys (in Greendale); Haskells (in Green Goose); Bowmans and Rutherfords (in Barways); Higleys and Lonsdales; the Charlie Woods. In the Lodge: The Lamsons (and two daughters and husbands); the Hartshorns, the Harringtons, the Bents (Henons, again?), the Spauldings, the Schoonmakers, the Nilsens, the Sollys, the Pooles, the Manleys, the Chitticks (Mitchells, too?), and the Kugelmans. I expect, but we need confirmation, some or all of these: Jimmy Reids (how many?), Gortons and Paul Gordons, Tuppers, Burkes, Georges, Bosses, Burleighs, Kolodins (this time?), Fendersons, Ted Lamb.
It would also help to have reservations for the after-game cocktails and buffet Saturday and Sunday dinner for those who will be with us but not staying up on the lake (Frenches, Alex Gibsons), including Hanoverians (Bridges, Coyles, Blodgetts, Bartletts, Robin Robinsons, Dot Strong, Foleys, and Christophes) and others.
We promise a good party, it gets better every year. Everyone who has been with us agrees this fall reunion is 100%.
Coming attraction: Guest columnist next month.
