At an April 4 dinner meeting in New York attended by more than 300 class agents, C. Kirk Liggett'36 was honored with the 1961 Harvey P. Hood Trophy, awarded annually to the outstanding head agent among those serving classes 11 through 25 years out of college. In presenting the award, Alumni Fund Chairman John D. Dodd '22 read the following citation:
You have served with great energy and distinction as Alumni Fund leader for the Class of 1936 during the years from your 20th through your 25th reunion. During this six-year period the class has increased its giving to the annual Alumni Fund by $10,000. Your efforts helped to produce an enviable Capital Campaign achievement for 1936, but more important was the careful cultivation and thorough organization which were hallmarks of your approach and which enabled 1936 to build strength upon strength following the Capital effort. In both 1960 and 1961 the Class of 1936 won the Group IV Green Derby competition and in so doing established class records in both donors and dollars. Last spring you and your effectively-organized and directed team of class agents worked tirelessly to produce $24,378, thus giving 1936 the great honor of becoming the first Dartmouth class in history to surpass a half-million dollars in total class giving at the 25 th reunion. You have served Dartmouth and the Alumni Fund well indeed, and the Fund Committee is highly privileged to honor you and your great Class of 1936 tonight by presenting to you, as the outstanding Head Agent of a class eleven through twenty-five years out of College,-the 1961 Harvey P. Hood Trophy.
