One of the interesting things about being Class Secretary is that news comes in from time to time on what other members of the class are doing. It is a little different from experience in the newspaper business where many say "you meet such interesting people" - which is true, but not quite so frequent.

Bob Ireland writes in from Mexico City: "Am winding up a year's travel in which I ve touched every continent, traveling primarily by freighter, the best way I've found. Obviously, this particular leg of the journey was by air."

From my predecessor, John Sawyer, came the word that Mignonne Spring, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Spring, is in the midst of her debutante year.

Indian Head Mills, Inc., diversified textile manufacturing and service company, has announced the election of Edwards C. Whitmore as vice president in charge of corporate planning.

The welcome mat is out for visitors to Old Saybrook, Conn., home of Bud and Allene Horn. Last word we had was they expected to be in their new house around May. Hope they made it. Bud is New England District manager for "Architectural Record" magazine, moved to Connecticut from Staten Island, N. Y., last September.

We have a classmate in Paris who would welcome knowing about others resident in Europe. Bob Button writes he "travels around Europe and if you have data on any other classmates living over here I could try to contact them en route." His mail address is U. S. Embassy (USRO), APO 30, New York, N. Y.

Thoughtful letter full of news from DickBrierley says:

I started in July on a consulting assignment with Drackett of Cincinnati. You will know them, I hope, as the makers of Windex, Drano and Vanish. I did a survey of the European market for them for the three months during the summer, taking my wife and four daughters with me. We lived in Brussels and they did some sightseeing while I worked out of there on business. The project turned out so fascinating that I joined the company in October as Vice President and Secretary with prime responsibility for an acquisition program and secondary responsibility for our international business.

As of this morning, we have announced negotiations to buy the O'Cedar business from Martin Marietta Corporation. This is the first major acquisition for the company and we are quite enthusiastic about it.

I am sorry to have had to miss the reunion but this was occasioned by the consulting job in Europe. I hope now to make the next one.

Our daughter, Linda, is a junior at Smith and Sandra is a freshman at Pomona College. Gail has made application for Smith for a year from now, and Ann, in the fourth grade, has a few years to go. We bought a lovely home in Cincinnati and have finally gotten settled over the last couple week ends.

Jim Whipkey recently made two important moves. The Whipkey family moved from the Pittsburgh suburb of Blackridge to another suburban area, Fox Chapel, and are "at home" on Grand View Drive North. Jim is now an association executive with the Pittsburgh-based trade association management firm of Hanson & Shea, Inc. His responsibilities in the last four years were with Clark Equipment Co., Battle Creek, Mich., for whom he managed several sales regions. His most recent position was as New York export manager for Clark International, C. A.

It is refreshing to find there is one other member of the class, at least, who is struggling with the wolf, as we all do, but in the same activity I have here in Washington. From Florida (P.O. Box 865, Jupiter) JohnL. Marsh writes that he is manufacturer's agent selling to public utilities, telephone companies, U.S. Government agencies, municipalities, contractors, jobbers and industrials. He's busy.

Leonard Mead is senior vice president and provost of Tufts University, Medford, Mass.

While on sabbatical leave from Wyoming University, A. A. Beetle is teaching eighteen students range management as honorary professor at the Institute of Technology and Superior Studies, Monterrey, Mexico. He is the first professor from the United States to spend a sabbatical leave there.

As of March Spencer Johnson was a candidate for Council in Pequannock, N. J. Belated best wishes for success.
