It seems as if I am writing these with far too much regularity, especially for a class that is still so recently removed from our days on the Plain. However, I have the unfortunate job of passing along to you, my classmates, news of the passing of Sean McInturff to a brain tumor. Sean's death came on June 13.1 did not know Sean personally, but I would be happy to take remembrances from those of you who did and publish them in our next set of notes.

Just as there is death, though, so is there life, Ilana Shulman Gutstein passed on news that she and her husband had their first child, Emma Haley, on July 27. "We are doing very well and enjoying our beautiful daughter," she wrote. I also got a quick note from Whitney Allen saying that she and Chris Bingham are enjoying their first child, 1-year-old Alex, who "is extremely full of himself due to his doting grandparents." Those of you who know Whitney's parents can only imagine what that means!

Amy Nauss Millay sent along a missive letting me know about the recent publication of her book, Voices From the Fuente Viva: The Effect of Oralityin 20th-century Spanish American Narrative. Amy and husband Todd Millay are living outside of Boston with their three children- Sophia (6), Christopher (3) and Sam (1) and Amy is teaching Latin-American literature at Tufts University.

Brian Ellner's campaign for Manhattan borough president garnered some attention in late August—just prior to the September 13 primary—when he placed an ad on TV that ended with him introducing his partner, Simon Holloway. Brian believes it to be the first televised campaign commercial in N.Y.C. history that has an openly gay politician appearing with his partner. It gained a full story in the August 29 New York Times.

Finally, I leave you with news that I am once again moving. After six fabulous years at Northwestern, I have taken the director of athletic communications job at Penn...yup, our Ivy rival. I know, I will wear the red and blue of the Quakers, but don't worry—I will continue to bleed green (you know, the same color as the money Penn is paying me)! It's a good move for me, and after a summer fighting off the media sharks about how my Northwestern lacrosse girls wore flip flops at the White House (yup, that was the team I worked with, and I was there that fateful day) it is time for new challenges and a chance to run my own shop. That's right, I get to boss people around. Scary.

In any case, please see my new information below and feel free to contact me with updates on yourselves. And those of you in and around Philly.. .I'd love to hear from you. I am looking for friends! Of course, I know that Julia Hynes Shoff will be seeing me a lot; in fact, she is probably going to try and get me to babysit her new twin kids! Um, yeah.. .Julia, an adult staff I can handle. Kids? Whole different ballgame. No chance!
