I told you this was going to happen. The basket is practically empty, so the column therefore will be short.

At the Harvard-Dartmouth game it seemed that '31 was scattered pretty much, so I'm not exactly sure who was there. John Benson was, as was Shep Wolff, Dick Chase, Dave Borkum, Bob Dickey, most with their spouses. Also, I was most pleasantly surprised to see Saul and Ruth Sherman sitting next to us, all the way up from Stamford, Conn., to see the game, but also to visit their son Stephen, who is at Harvard Medical School after graduating from Dartmouth. I've not seen Saul since 1931, and he looked good. Being a physician apparently agrees with him.

A card from Dick Holbrook, suggesting Ed Gruen for the committee to develop Fifteen Questions. So be it, Richard, by the authority unvested in me. However, none of the com mi tee has communicated as of this date, so presumably everything is as it was before.

Fine letter from Jim Swift relative to the '31 Club of Chicagoland, details of which are found in Bill Steck's last newsletter. My only comment is that, by Jim's own words, all our Chicago frères did was to eat and drink. Nobody seemed to get around to electing officers or writing by-laws. Sounds like a wasted evening.

Jim enclosed a letter from Beany Thorn expressing some awe at the achievements of our Class in the Alumni Fund. Beany, if you will recall, tried to get us depression babies to donate $1 for each year out. Yes-sir. times seemed to have changed since then. I quote Beany: "Life among the Thorns is as complicated as ever - we were in the South Pacific for six weeks concentrating on Australia - younger daughter Susan just back from living with Japanese family on one of the lesser-known islands - four grandsons flying around with their parents in their Cessna - son released for two months from Hudson to work with Rockefeller's team. Ho-hum. (signed) Beany"

Adrian O'Keefe is now chairman of the board of First National Stores, Inc.

Arthur Birkett Jr. has been appointed manager of the Social Security Administration district office in Norwood, Mass. He and fanily reside in Wellesley.

Arthur Marx, deputy director of legislative services for the New Hampshire General Court, recently spoke at the Concord Rotary Club on the upswing in legislative business.

Delcie D. "Jack" Bean, the Jaffrey, N.H., match king, gave his daughter Elizabeth in marriage on September 17, to Michael Alan Milleman '66. They will live in Eugene, Ore., which is a long way from Jaffrey.

Men of '31, you have had it for this month. Please write when you get pen and ink or at least Xerox a page from your diary.
