1912's Fiftieth
July 1962 WYCKOFF L. GARRISON '12,

The weather for our 50th Reunion was perfect and we enjoyed warm sunshine throughout the entire program. Classmates started arriving Friday morning and signed in with our Reunion Committee in Room 104 Middle Mass. Hall which was 1912 headquarters. Each classmate received his envelope containing identification badges, program, list, and location of all members of the Class expected to attend. As new arrivals came in small groups formed in front of Middle Mass., in the halls, and in the headquarters' rooms to greet each other, some for the first time in fifty years.

The first official get-together was at 5:00 P.M. for the first Sundown Social Hour held in the Tavern Room of the Hanover Inn, courtesy of Vice-Chairman Dick Remsen followed by a dinner for the Class at Thayer Hall.

At 8:00 P.M. many members of the Class attended President John Sloan Dickey's reception at his home for members of the 50year class, seniors, and their parents. The evening was topped off with a superb performance by the Glee Club and Injunaires in Webster Hall under the direction of Paul R. Zeller. Following the concert many of the hardier souls of the Class looked in on the dance at College Hall.

Early Saturday morning a tour of Hopkins Center was conducted for those who wished to see this new addition to the campus and some members of the Class were lost in its labyrinth and missed the class picture which followed immediately thereafter on Webster Hall steps.

The Service of Remembrance for our deceased classmates was prepared by FletcherClark Jr. This service in the White Church was presented by the Rev. Harry StevensLowd and the Rev. Roy Bullard Chamberlain, former Chapel Director.

The Class Dinner followed at College Hall where Chairman Doc O'Connor introduced Conrad Snow as acting toastmaster. Connie voiced his sincere appreciation of all the compliments he had received from members of the Class on the publication of the 50 Year Book, a copy of which was forwarded in June to each member of the Class as a permanent record of our 50th Reunion. Roy E. Lewis, Chairman of the Reunion Committee, was heartily congratulated on a most successful reunion and reported briefly on the attendance record of 87 classmates and a gross total of 193 including the ladies of 1912 and children of the class. A 1912 Reunion Song, "When We Were Fifty Years Younger, Dartmouth," composed by Boss Geller, lyrics by Al Eiseman was performed by them and enthusiastically applauded. The luncheon address, "Surcum Codra" was given by Dr. HenryViets to terminate one of the most enjoyable get-togethers in our class history.

The class meeting followed in Room 1902 Baker Library with Doc O'Connor, chairman, presiding. President John Sloan Dickey received a standing ovation when he attended the meeting for a brief period to bring his best wishes to the Class on our 50th reunion. With the exception of AlfredL. Smith who was nominated to follow in the footsteps of the late Henry B. Van Dyne as Bequest Chairman, the same class officers and members of the executive committee were elected by the Class to hold office until June 1967.

The second Sundown Social Hour was held at 4:30 P.M. in the Tavern Room of the Hanover Inn, courtesy of Chairman Doc O'Connor. Under the leadership of Boss Geller and Katy Baker at the piano the class broke out into song and it was with difficulty that the class could break up to attend the alumni dinner scheduled to follow at 6:00 P.M. at the Gym.

During the speaking program following the alumni dinner Ellwood H. Fisher '21 presented the annual Alumni Award to our own Richard Remsen to the applause and congratulations of the Class. Basil O'Connor was introduced later as the "Honorary Fifty-Year Speaker" and after a most enlightening and thought-provoking speech addressed to the members of the graduating senior class left this final word with them: "Moving water freezes last."

On Sunday morning the men of the Class met at Wilson Hall to join in the Commencement procession and attend the exercises on the Baker Library lawn. The final party for 1912 at our 50th Reunion was the farewell brunch at the Dartmouth Outing Club where heartfelt good-bys were said with the following sincere wish, "May your homeward journey be filled with happy memories and keen anticipation of all Twelver gatherings, great and small, that are yet to come."
