OCTOBER 1963 HARRY W. SAVAGE M'27

Registration is September 15; classes begin September 16! Following an extremely busy summer, most of the faculty is looking forward to the resumption of regular school activities two weeks from the day this is being written. The entering class will reach our limit of 48 for the first time and will include representatives of eighteen colleges or universities.

Expansion of the physical plant progresses on schedule. The Charles A. Dana Biomedical Library will be dedicated formally on October 11. The transfer of books and journals from the former Medical Library in Baker has been completed, and looking from my office window, the forms of both the Electronmicroscopic Laboratory Building and the Gilman Life Sciences Laboratory can be seen rising higher daily.

Requests for application forms and completed applications for the entering class next year are pouring in daily, and interviews of candidates will be underway in early October. This is the time to remind you that if you have a pet applicant to support, tell us about him now. Don't wait until next spring when the class is full.

Another formal dedication - that of the Rolf C. Syvertsen Memorial Room - is being planned for the spring. This will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the Nathan Smith Medical Society and will include scientific sessions as well as gala social events. Start planning to be here for this big occasion. The main purpose will be to honor Sy. Incidentally, if you have not yet contributed to this fund and wish to do so, contributions are still being accepted.

The summer months, starting with Commencement in June, produce a welcome parade of alumni - "my boys," as Sy was wont to say. In fact, it is almost impossible to keep track of them all, but we will give you a few bits gleaned during that period. DickRooker M'39 toured the school and appeared to think we had a better attraction than his home, Niagara Falls. Maurie Costin M'40 has written us from Framingham to report that he is already at work promoting the reunion of his class next June. More power to him! Harry Durkin M'49, accompanied by his wife, four children and sister, took time out from his Sugar Bush area (Vermont) vacation for a very brief visit. PhilJohnson M'49, now to be found at Columbia Presbyterian, went through Hanover so fast we didn't even see him. Warren BabcockM'54 is touring Japan at the expense of the Army. Ben Branch M'54 has gone to work, doing OB and GYN in Albuquerque, N. M. The Frank Amicks M'54 provided a pleasant interlude by their visit on one hot day in early July. Bill Loomis M'54 left his general practice in Manchester, Vt., and is now doing psychiatry in Denver at the University of Colorado. Chuck Tannenbaum M'55 has forsaken the cold of Anchorage, Alaska, and is thawing out in the warm sun in Bakersfield, Calif. Lloyd Tepper M'55 utilized a break in the Gordon Scientific Assembly program at Meriden, N. H., to do an inspection tour here before returning to his radiation field. Randy Silver M'ss left his busy pediatric practice in Randolph, Vt., long enough to attend a conference here one summer day. Phil Mossman M'56 walked right into our bailiwick and walked out with Mary Ranlett, one of our microbiologists, as his bride. Dick Ruel M'57 is now safely launched in the practice of internal medicine in Detroit. Bill Gallagher M'58 has been touring the Mediterranean on a small yacht, the U.S.S. Saratoga. Bob Jeffery M'58 is completing his military service in the same submarine in which Howie Green M'57 dove. Mel BrittonM'58 from Hawaii is already planning a Hanover trip in mid-64. The Mark CloutiersM'58 have welcomed Kristen Lee to the family. Robin Saphir M'58 finally left the bachelor ranks in June when he was married to Florence Cooper McNair. Bob ForcierM'58 passed through on his way to Maine after two years of Navy duty. The MartyCarters M'59, now in the Public Health Service, are located in Philadelphia. MarkSaginor M'59 has reported from Camp Lejeune, and we only hope he doesn't bump into Marine colonels as he did Miss California. Rumor has it that Don Leaf M'60 was married this summer but we have no official confirmation. Charlie Eytel M'60, on his way to Guam, tells us that Al GazzanigaM'59 still treads a destroyer deck. SaulRoskes M'61 brought his new wife to Hanover for official installation in the DMS family. Stuie Hanson M'62 walked up the aisle with Gail Joan Taylor. John KerseyM'62 stopped off to attend his brother's graduation on his way to Lund Hospital in Sweden for a tour of duty. The M'62ers returned in force after their third year: DonBartlett, Dave Gordin, Ken Robertson, DaveSchmidt, Ted Tapper, and Tony Wattleworth, to mention a few.
