Harlow "Bob" Munson '48 (standing left) was honored as the Club Secretary of the Year at the annual meeting of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association in Hanover last month. He is secretary of the Washington, D. C. Club. The award was presented by Mike McGean '49 (standing right), associate secretary of the College. Bill Squier '40 (seated right) presided. Mrs. Edward Chamberlain (left) was seated at the head table with her husband, the Director of Admissions, who spoke following the awards. Following is the citation read at the dinner:
Around college record-keeping offices they saythat the toughest town for a club secretary towork is Washington, D. C. It calls for understanding; indeed, downright cunning when Internal Revenue or the FBI calls about a good Dartmouth man, wanting to know who he was withat the last stag meeting, or even worse, why heclaimed gambling losses in 1962 when the football team went undefeated! But Washingtonalumni have found the answer man for embarrassing questions. They selected a Secretary with fiveyears experience in the Central IntelligenceAgency. And they figured you'd take the job, Bob,because you have a twin brother who comes inmighty handy when the heat is on, not to mention your own twin sons who surely can confusethe "Feds" if not yourself.
It would take a man with your background tochoose The Black Gun as the site for the annualWashington dinner meeting last spring. The evening was completely successful, just like ten earlier programs during the year, plus 52 Dartmouthluncheons and all the record-keeping problemsthat fall on a club with over 800 members. Weknow you reorganized a telephone committeewhich helped round up the gang for meetings, butwe also know that your willingness to take a lotof time for Dartmouth made most of the difference.
To be perfectly frank about your success, wecan't think of anything a good Club Secretaryshould do that you haven't done, and, therefore,we wisely nominate, happily second, and enthusiastically declare you Club Secretary of the Year.
