On December 27 a contingent of Dartmouth alumni journeyed to Lexington to see Doggie Julian and his basketball team tangle with Cotton Nash and several of the best outside shooters this scribe has seen. Nevertheless, in spite of a lopsided score in favor of Kentucky, and the fact that our boys had not played for almost three weeks, we felt that Dartmouth gave a very good account of itself.

The group met at the Phoenix Hotel in the afternoon where Warren Schleicher '45, executive manager of the hotel, had arranged a hospitality room for us and set up a beautiful and delicious buffet dinner. Seventeen alumni were present who with wives, children, and friends, swelled the count to forty. We did even better at the game and constituted a small but noisy cheering section of 64 people.

Following the game Greif Raible '19 entertained the team at his beautiful Pebblebrook Farm mansion outside of Lexington. In addition to another buffet spread, he had provided a swing band, a bevy of some of the most beautiful debutantes from around Lexington, and Adolph Rupp. Doggie pressed Coach Rupp very hard to get some of his coaching secrets that enable him, year after year, to put out top-ranking basketball teams. It finally boiled down to the fact that the Kentucky boys eat steak twice on game days and Doggie's budget can afford steakonly once!
