Our 65 th reunion is history. President Charlie Collis concluded his five years of exceptional service, and his Ellen was hostess for our super dinners at the Hanover Inn.
We not only led the graduation paradeHarold Putnam, Charles Collis and Stanley Berenson (the oldest class that could still walk the walk!), but we hiked the Appalachian Trail (from Collis Hall to the Hanover Inn!). Bet you have forgotten that the trail comes up West Wheelock Street and goes eastward right in front of the Hanover Inn.
Three classmates made historic speeches—Hank Doremus, Will Brown and Chick Koop. And Saturday morning, we heard from the entire Koop family.
We elected new officers: Stan Berenson, president; Will Brown, vice president; Harold Putnam, secretary, and Bill Heroy, treasurer. Bill Rotch moved a special resolution of appreciation for Mort Berkowitz (super work on our newsletters and solely responsible for the great new directory). Mort has been ill, and we missed him at the reunion.
Frank Young presided over our memorial service, from which we walked to the dedication of the Fran Fenn American elm at the corner of Massachusetts Row and Tuck Drive. Mary Fenn writes that she "was deeply touched. I am not sure whose idea it was to have the tree planted." Credit goes mostly to Chick Koop and Charlie Collis, with the complete support of all the class.
President Wright sends his thanks: "The long loyalty and generosity of the class of '37 impresses us all. We are most grateful."
Success crowns our efforts to build closer relationships
with current students. Four of them were our guests at several events. We sat them with alums who are living legends in fields of study that interest them.
We have a few souvenirs left over and available from Jane Handrahan at these prices: baseball hat, $8; women's hat, $10; tote bag, $16. Make your check payable to Jane. She can deduct her expenses and forward the balance to our treasurer.
Suggestion for next time: a widow for assistant chairman. They are our memory-bearers—appreciative, loyal and hard-working members of our class. We love 'em all.
With special sadness, I report the death of Constance M. Berersson—"Connie" to all of us the wife of our new class president Stan. Atrouper to the end, she came to our 65 th reunion in a wheelchair and died shortly after returning home. Our class and our College had no more dedicated supporter than Connie Berenson. Honor to her memory.
