The outdoor track team received a severe jolt just one week before its opening dual meet with Harvard when quartermiler Tom Holzel injured both legs in an automobile accident. As this is written he is resting comfortably in Dick's House, but the exact extent of the injury and the length of time he'll be sidelined is still undetermined.

Coach Ellie Noyes feels that should Holzel be out for more than two weeks, it will be difficult for him to regain the form which has made him one of the best middle-distance runners in the Ivy League.

In addition to Holzel, the track team will also be without the services of sprinter Gerry Ashworth until the Heptagonals, May 11. The Indian captain is participating in the Pan-American games in Brazil.

In the running events this spring, with both Ashworth and Holzel missing, the spotlight will be on distance runner Pete Wells. He showed steady improvement in the two-mile run during the winter, finally gaining a second in the indoor Heptagonals.

Looking at the field events, it looks like Dana Kelly will be the best bet in the javelin, while, Bob Cahners and Don Switzer head the list of competitors in the discus. The other field events remain pretty much the same as they were indoors, with the exception of the hop, step and jump, which at this writing is still an unknown factor.
