Three endowed faculty chairs, bearing the names of their donors, have been created with funds left to the College by the late Leon E. Williams '15 and Sydney E. Junkins '87. Named to the new professorships are Hugh S. Morrison '26, Leon E. Williams Professor of Art; G. Walter Woodworth, Leon E. Williams Professor of Business Administration at the Tuck School; and William W. Ballard '2B, Sydney E. Junkins Professor of Biology.
Mr. Williams, a tax authority and owner of large ranching properties in New Mexico, South Dakota, and Nebraska, made a bequest of more than $2,500,000 to Dartmouth. He had special interest in the College's instructional program and in raising faculty compensation, and the chairs named for him are in recognition of that concern. Mr. Junkins, a prominent engineer in Canada and this country, made provision after the death of his son, E. Page Junkins '14, for an endowment fund of more than $250,000 to support "some branch of instruction, preferably of an engineering or scientific character."
