Turning to track we find the Indians in pretty bad shape. With the graduation of Gerry Ashworth, Tom Holzel, and Pete Wells, Coach Ellie Noyes is hurting in the running events. Against Cornell, the only meet to date, the Indians lost every running event but the 60-yard high hurdles which went to sophomore Jim Season of Cleveland, Ohio. The final score was 68-41.
Of the returning lettermen captain Lynn Bates, college record holder in the pole vault, is the brightest prospect. In the Cornell meet, he jumped 13 feet 9¾ inches for a first place. Another veteran, Bob Cahners,, should score consistently in the weights and the best bet in the shot put will be either Dave Pothoff or Don Switzer.
Besides those victories already mentioned in the Cornell meet the one-mile relay team registered a first. It included Bill Flowers, Dick Rehberg, Dave Mulliken, and Dennis Bekemeyer.
The '67 track team was also trounced by Cornell 87-21 and like its counterpart, managed only one victory in the running events. That win went to Dave McMahill of Omaha, Neb., in the mile. Dave is a former Nebraska state champion in that event.
