The Avalon Foundation of New York City has awarded a $150,000 grant to the Dartmouth Medical School for general purposes. Spread over a three-year period, the grant will be given at the rate of $50,000 a year. The foundation previously has given two grants of $5,000 each for medical scholarships in 1961 and 1962.
Dean Gilbert H. Mudge of the Dartmouth Medical School expressed the School's appreciation for the Avalon Foundation's support and emphasized the vital role it will play in supporting the educational commitments of the refounded Medical School.
The Avalon Foundation, formed in 1940 by Mrs. Ailsa Mellon Bruce, has broad philanthropic purposes, concentrating primarily in the fields of health and medicine and the development of young people.
